General Aviation Communications Forum

April 23, 2012

One of our goals at Willow Run is to create a sense of community with the GA population.  I met with Sean Brosnan, YIP Director a few weeks ago and we agreed to create a GA Forum consisting of key players at the airport. For starters, they are Eagle Flight, Bird Cage, Black Eagle, Mang Aero Club and Chimera Air.  We had our first meeting on April 4 and following are the items we discussed:

Landfill South of YIP – According to information received from AOPA Regional Manager, Bryan Budds and the Michigan Department of Transportation, Aeronautics Airports Administrator, the permits issued by the State has restricted the landfill to a height below airport minimums.  MDOT is aware and monitoring.

Sale of Airport Land – Proposed sale of land is a land swap between Willow Run Airport and Racer Trust LLC, formerly GM, that will allow the airport to gain 250 feet on the approach end of 9L.

YIP Web Page Development – Project is ongoing.

Lack of General Aviation Services at Willow Run – General discussion of how this could be remedied.

Eagle Flight Center, Eastern Michigan University – New hangar construction for the Center has started at the west end of the airport.

Future GA Communications  Form Meetings – We decided to hold quarterly meetings and future meetings will include the Tower Manager, AV Fuel and Active Aero along with the existing members.

Additional Suggestions for Contacts – Women in Aviation Chapter, Yankee Ladies, is headquartered at the airport.  Monthly meetings are held ont he second Monday of each month.
